The annual anniversary vacation

We went on vacation again for our anniversary this year. This time we spent 4 days in Park City.
We spent a lot of time shopping at the outlets and in the town. But my personal favorite place to shop was at the Silly Sunday Market, which Dexter promptly nicknamed "The Hippie Fair" since it's put on by environmentalists who only sell things that have been reused or recycled. I love to see random street fairs:
I really want to try to make a silverware wind-chime now...
At the fair, I bought some funky handmade necklaces and learned how to make really neat flower hair clips out of aluminum cans.

The next day, we visited a ski resort where we learned about the history of skiing and what to do during an avalanche.

Then we tried to be professional athletes at the Olympic Park:
Dex learned that he really wants to try bobsledding. I learned that climbing on the luge is terrifying even if it is bolted to the floor.
We also got to see real athletes training. Who knew that skiers practiced their aerials by skiing down a ramp made out of a giant tarp and then flipping into a deep swimming pool with all their gear on? Yes, they actually swim with skis on their feet (and thankfully have life jackets).
It was a gold medal vacation.

The summer of finally

The summer's been full of long awaited events finally occurring (including finally updating my blog).

First:

I graduated from WSU with my bachelors degree and teaching license!

Second:Kyle returned home after serving his mission in L.A. He misses it terribly and wants to go back, but I'd rather him stay or I'll miss him terribly again.

Third:
After years of battling for their adopted daughter's citizenship, these great folks were finally sealed together as a forever family. And I got to go to the sealing and see my little cousin become a member of our eternal family.

Forth:I finally got over being self conscious and danced like a maniac at a concert. I even got Dex to join me (It's hard to resist dancing to Kenny Chesney). And I got hit on by a drunk-but that event wasn't longingly awaited. Since my awesome mother-in-law gave us mega tickets, I get to do this again 3 more times! (And see 3x the crazy drunk people! ;-)

Fifth:
I joined a great service crusade and, in the process, found a cure for my depression. You can read all about my journey, the awesome new cause, and way fun projects at my brand new blog-104 Cards for Soldiers. Check it out, and if you're interested in getting involved, let me know.

And finally sixth:
I am a West Point Warrior! Watch out 7th and 8th graders; you're about to be in Mrs. Snyder's science class.

New Life

So many changes have happened in the past couple months. I looked at my blog and felt bad since Valentine's Day is in two days and I haven't updated since before Christmas. It feels like Dex and I have a whole new life since then:
  • I'm student teaching full time at Davis High School. It's crazy to finally be a teacher. It's even crazier to be responsible for over 120 high schoolers.
  • Dex is working full time. He'll be back in school in the fall, but for now we're just pushing me through.
  • Dexter is also, as of tomorrow, the only bread-winner of the family. Today is my last day at Roberts. It just didn't work with my teaching schedule.
  • We put in an offer on a house. It didn't work out, but it feels weird to have done something so grown up.
  • I have a job interview with a school district in a few weeks. Instead of a job, it's a career!
  • I graduate in two months, then I get to be the one to bring home the bacon.
How can it be that we're adults already?
